ROY DEAN’S PURPLE BELT REQUIREMENTS
So my copy finally arrived (it takes a while to travel from West Coast USA to Eastern Canada). So as promised, here is my review. The short version is: WOW! Buy it!
Roy Dean has picked up exactly where you want him to. This video series assumes some knowledge on the part of the viewer. This knowledge is adeptly given to you in his Blue Belt Requirements series. The Blue Belt videos give you a solid base in BJJ. The videos go pains takingly through techniques from various speeds and angles to make sure that you pick up on every detail of the technique. After viewing these videos and practicing these techniques you will come to a point where you begin to ask, “now what”? Enter Purple Belt Requirements.
Roy Dean compares BJJ with language. I love this analogy. At the blue belt level you are learning words (techniques) and at the purple belt level you are learning to string these words into sentences. In this new video series you will not learn new techniques instead you learn to view them in a greater context. You will learn to look upon the “game” differently and start to see wider application for the techniques you have already learned. You will begin to see how they can be used as the end result or how they can be strung together with the other techniques you have learned to drive to an end result.
Roy Dean gives us an insight into his view of the application of BJJ and we start to see the every growing dynamics that go with it.
The videos are even better in quality than his previous series. It has so much quality information that you will not absorb it all at first view. This video fills a great void. It provides for the transition from throwing out random techniques into an actual flowing and deliberate game.
Roy Dean is a great teacher and his passion for BJJ shines through. These videos are sure to provide inspiration to all.
As an aside I want to thank Roy for sharing this knowledge in such a way.
